When Matt Schaub went down with a knee injury several weeks ago, many fantasy owners struggling for help at quarterback picked up Sage Rosenfels.

Unfortunately, after two games replacing Schaub, Rosenfels has five interceptions and one touchdown for the Texans. But better things could be in store, beginning this weekend.

It's important to remember that Rosenfels faced the Ravens and Colts, teams with a couple of the toughest pass defenses in the league, in his last two games. He'll face the Browns on Sunday and the Jaguars the following week.

If Rosenfels is ever going to produce, the time is now. And with Andre Johnson at receiver and an improved running game thanks to rookie Steve Slaton, there's reason to think this can be done.

In Cleveland, Houston is likely to run often, but the forecast there isn't calling for snow Sunday and the Texans will try to get Johnson involved. The Browns have given up 13 TD passes, so a two-TD day is possible for Rosenfels. The Jaguars, meanwhile, gave up three TDs passes to Kerry Collins on Sunday and two to Ryan Fitzpatrick two weeks before. Rosenfels won't be confused with Peyton Manning any time soon, but he can do a reasonable Collins or Fitzpatrick fantasy impersonation.

The schedule gets tougher for Rosenfels after Jacksonville, but for two weeks, he could be worth a shot. And in a season in which Tyler Thigpen has almost as many TD passes as Ben Roethlisberger, the new Texans quarterback could give fantasy teams a needed shot in the arm.

With the fantasy Football playoffs fast approaching, there's no shortage of running back news impacting owners.

Earnest Graham, Bucs RB

* News: Graham is finished after suffering a high right ankle sprain. Warrick Dunn will replace him, and Cadillac Williams should see time, too.

* Fantasy impact: Dunn is a must-add player - he had 20 carries last week and caught four passes. Williams' status is less clear given that he just returned Sunday from major knee surgery.

Willie Parker, Steelers RB

* News: Parker started the week saying the Steelers didn't use him in goal-line situations in Week 11 because of his bad shoulder. He ended it by leaving Thursday's game with a knee injury.

* Fantasy impact: Parker has missed plenty of time this season, and Mewelde Moore has been the winner in that situation. Parker and Moore owners must watch the news closely as Week 13 approaches, because Pittsburgh loves to run the ball.

Deuce McAllister, Saints RB

* News: McAllister has scored a touchdown in three-straight weeks, but he's also not seeing many carries and could be suspended.

* Fantasy impact: McAllister appealed a four-game suspension for violating its substance abuse policy. He might escape that, and maybe Reggie Bush won't return Monday, but Pierre Thomas is taking a bigger role - and it's unlikely he'll dodge that bullet.

Peyton Hillis, Broncos RB

* News: The rookie fullback scored two TDs in his start Sunday and looks like he'll remain the starter.

* Fantasy impact: There's no reason not to start Hillis - he plays in a good offense and has a favorable matchup against Oakland on Sunday.

Darren McFadden, Raiders RB

* News: The rookie is getting close to full speed, the Contra Costa Times reports, after toe injuries had slowed him.

* Fantasy impact: The next two games are tempting: at Denver and against the Chiefs. Looking further, if McFadden is on your waiver wire, stash him for the postseason when starters on playoff-bound teams are benched.

Steven Jackson, Rams RB

* News: A quadriceps injury will keep Jackson out for the third-straight week.

* Fantasy impact: Antonio Pittman will continue to get the carries, although this weekend's game against the Bears should be tough. The Rams are awful, so the team might shut down Jackson soon.

Brian Westbrook, Eagles RB

* News: Westbrook, who has knee and ankle injuries, didn't practice this week. Correll Buckhalter could see the majority of the carries Sunday, the team's Web site reports.

* Fantasy impact: Westbrook hasn't scored in three weeks, so Buckhalter could help - but likely not this week, when Philadelphia is at Baltimore.

The Knicks made two significant moves Friday.

Jamal Crawford deal

* THE DEAL: The Knicks landed Al Harrington for SG Jamal Crawford.

* FANTASY IMPACT: This is huge victory for Harrington. He's a big man who shoots 3-pointers, so he should thrive in Mike D'Antoni's offense. In Golden State, Crawford will put up his shots, so he should keep his value. But guys like Anthony Morrow and Kelenna Azubuike could be hurt.

Zach Randolph deal

* THE DEAL: Knicks PF Zach Randolph and SG Mardy Collins go to the Clippers for SF Tim Thomas and SG Cuttino Mobley.

* FANTASY IMPACT: Any deal that sends Randolph away hurts his value, especially if he doesn't have center-eligibility in your league yet. And to the Clippers, who have Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman already? Randolph owners should be upset. But Mobley owners should be happy, even though he's not, especially now that Crawford is in Golden State.

MLB: The Toronto Sun reports that even though the Blue Jays might not offer as much to SP A.J. Burnett as other teams, they will offer a five-year deal, which is a big plus. ... SP Curt Schilling said in an MLB.com report that playing a half-season next season somewhere is a possibility.

NBA: Rockets SG/SF Tracy McGrady says he needs more touches to help him get out of a slump, the Houston Chronicle reports. But Rick Adelman says "he's got to play through it." ... Wizards PG Gilbert Arenas said in a Washington Post story that his surgically-repaired left knee is gaining strength but that he's still not ready. There's no timetable for his return.

NFL: Jaguars WR Matt Jones practiced Friday after being held out last week with a thigh injury. Jones has at least five catches in the last four games in which he's played. ... Marvin Lewis says Bengals QB Carson Palmer , out with an elbow injury, has only a slim chance of playing in Week 13. Even if he did play, he would face the Ravens.
