Baltimore Ravens News

The Jaguars' trade of defensive tackle Tony McDaniel to the Miami Dolphins became official Friday after McDaniel passed the Dolphins' physical.

The Dolphins had agreed to give the Jaguars a seventh-round pick for McDaniel, but made the trade contingent on McDaniel passing the physical because he went on the injured reserve list last Dec. 16.

McDaniel is the seventh former Jaguar to move to another team in the offseason as new general manager Gene Smith continues to rebuild the team. The Jaguars now have seven draft picks in the upcoming draft and could pick up more if they trade down from their current position at No. 8 in the first round of the April 25-26 NFL draft.

McDaniel joined the Jaguars in 2006 as an undrafted free agent rookie out of Tennessee and played in 25 games, starting three, in three seasons with the team. He ended the last two years on injured reserve.

The Baltimore Ravens signed free agent tight end L.J. Smith to a one-year contract.

Head coach John Harbaugh said that he knows what type of player the Ravens are getting in Smith from his days coaching in Philadelphia.

"I had the opportunity to be around L.J. for a number of years in Philadelphia, and there is a comfort level that we have with each other," Harbaugh said.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 258-pound, six-year NFL veteran, has caught 231 passes for 2,525 yards and 18 touchdowns in 86 regular-season games.

Fullback Leonard Weaver agreed to a one-year contract with Philadelphia, giving the Eagles a much-needed blocker in the backfield. Weaver spent his first four seasons with Seattle. He ran for 130 yards and caught 20 passes for two touchdowns last season.

The Minnesota Vikings have signed CB Cedric Griffin to a contract extension. Griffin declined to divulge terms of the deal, though he said it was similar in structure to the four-year contract he signed after the Vikings drafted him in the second round in 2006. That deal included $1.62 million guaranteed. ... A man in suburban Philadelphia testified that he did not sell marijuana to Denver Broncos RB Correll Buckhalter. That contradicts the word of a state trooper, who testified Thursday that he was listening on wiretaps when Buckhalter called the suspect, 36-year-old Styles Beckles of Clifton Heights. Trooper Scott John Miscannon also says a notation on a ledger in Beckles' house indicates Buckhalter bought marijuana from him. Beckles is on trial in Delaware County on charges of drug possession and intent to deliver drugs. A prosecutor says Beckles initially admitted selling marijuana to Buckhalter, a former Eagles running back.
