NFL GRIDIRON GUIDE: Pats get even with Dolphins
Marquee matchups

Patriots (6-4) at Dolphins (6-4)

Line: Dolphins by 1 Over/Under: 42 1 p.m.

The Pats are primed to rebound from losing to the Jets, and they're thirsting to avenge the 38-13 "Wildcat Unveiling" ambush in Week 3. The Dolphins are much improved but their record is a mirage. They were lucky to edge bums (Seahawks, Raiders) the past two weeks. The pick: Patriots

Eagles (5-4-1) at Ravens (6-4)

Line: Ravens by 1 O/U: 39? 1 p.m.

Unlike Donovan McNabb, I like ties because they bring the gray area into sports' all-or-nothing universe. Nobody's thrilled or sad, and unless it's a pick 'em, somebody wins. Which is worse, getting smashed by the Giants or tying the Bengals? Survey says: Tying the Bengals. Baltimore is 3-1 at home, losing only to the Titans. The pick: Ravens

Panthers (8-2) at Falcons (6-4)

Line: Falcons by 1 Over/Under: 42? 4:15 p.m.

Atlanta is 4-1 at home but 0-4 overall against teams now over .500, including Carolina. But the Panthers (2-2 away) were shaky lately in beating the Raiders and Lions. Here's an angle that usually works: Veteran team handles young team in important game. The pick: Panthers

Colts (6-4) at Chargers (4-6)

Line: Chargers by 2 1/2 O/U: 49 1/2 TV-Radio: Ch. 4, WFAN (660), 8:15 p.m.

Who says the Chargers can't do anything right? They covered four of their last five against the Colts, but perhaps the wind is about to shift. Indy's offense is healing and starting to look like its old self. San Diego is 32nd against the pass. The pick: Colts

Around the league

BUCS (7-3) at Lions (0-10)

Line: Bucs by 8 O/U: 41? 1 p.m.

Steve the Patriots fan canceled NFL Sunday Ticket because he "didn't want to pay $250 to see 10 games all in commercial at the same time." Wayne and Gary the Lions fans can't bear to watch as 0-16 looms, but this might not be a slaughter. Tampa (1-3-1 ATS road) rarely scores much. The pick: Lions

Bears (5-5) at Rams (2-8)

Line: Bears by 8 O/U: 43 1 p.m.

After a 47-3 rout by the Jets, St. Louis trailed the 49ers 35-3 at halftime. But there's no quit in these sacrificial Rams, who battled back tough to lose by only 19. Chicago bounces back from a 37-3 rout at Lambeau against a team that has quit. The pick: Bears

49ers (3-7) at Cowboys (6-4)

Line: Cowboys by 10 Over/Under: 46? 1 p.m.

Cowboy Nation, which dead-heats with Yankees fans for front-running, has re-emerged. Sweeping the 49ers and Seahawks in five days would pack the bandwagon again. The 'Boys better not assume a rout, because the 49ers are trying hard for Mike Singletary. The pick: Cowboys

Bills (5-5) at Chiefs (1-9)

Line: Bills by 3 O/U: 43? 1 p.m.

Las Vegas reportedly handles $10 million on the average NFL game, and on all the below-average ones, too. What recession? Ever since his Week 5 concussion, Trent Edwards has become a turnover machine and Buffalo is 1-5. The Chiefs, losers of 18 of 19, are on a 3-1 ATS run. Could this finally be Herm Edwards' happy day? The pick: Chiefs

TEXANS (3-7) at Browns (4-6)

Line: Browns by 3 Over/Under: 50 1 p.m.

Compared to this farce, what is tomorrow's Michigan-Ohio State epic? It's a junior varsity game. Houston has lost eight straight road games (2-6 ATS). Cleveland won the turnover battle 4-0 but almost lost at Buffalo, and Brady Quinn (probable) has a broken right index finger. Where's my lucky coin? The pick: Browns

Vikings (5-5) at Jaguars (4-6)

Line: Jaguars by 2? Over/Under: 40? 1 p.m.

The Jaguars are 1-4 at home, 0-5 ATS; the Vikings are 0-4 (no covers) outdoors. Unfortunately, I have to pick somebody. The Jags dominated the Titans for a half but are playing only for pride. Mediocre Minnesota can find a way to lose. The pick: Jaguars

Raiders (2-8) at Broncos (6-4)

Line: Broncos by 9 Over/Under: 42? 4:05 p.m.

Salute Mike "Scary Stare" Shanahan for keeping his injury-riddled Broncos going, and they should win the sorry AFC West. Their defense is battered, but Oakland's offense is below a bottom feeder (three TDs in the last six games). The pick: Broncos

Redskins (6-4) at Seahawks (2-8)

Line: Redskins by 3? Over/Under: 40 1 p.m.

If you bet the over on 8.5 wins for Seattle, make sure that you recycle those tickets. Dueling negatives: The 'Skins scored 17 points or fewer in four of their last five; Seattle has the No. 31 pass defense. Maybe former Seahawk QB Jim Zorn's West Coast offense can perk up on the West Coast. The pick: Redskins

Packers (5-5) at Saints (5-5)

Line: Saints by 2? Over/Under: 51? TV-Radio: ESPN, WFAN (660), Monday, 8:30 p.m.

Favorites (77-77-4 ATS) went 8-8 and four losers beat the spread (counting the Chargers, who really didn't). Green Bay has covered five straight (three wins) and can outscore Drew Brees and defensively challenged New Orleans. The pick: Packers

Jets (7-3) at Titans (10-0)

Line: Titans by 5? Over/Under: 40? TV-Radio: Ch. 2, WABC (770), WEPN (1050), WRCN (103.9), 1 p.m.

After triumphing in Armageddon at Foxborough, the Jets can cancel Tennessee's chance of matching the 16-0 Patriots. The Titans' unspectacular style and small market have kept them from becoming media darlings, and few think they'll run the table. They could have lost any of their last four games (Colts, Packers, Bears, Jaguars), and I don't foresee a blowout here. Like the Bears, the Jets can contain the Titans' running game. They've had extra time to recharge after the Patriots game and can keep it close. The pick: Jets

Giants (9-1) at Cardinals (7-3)

Line: Giants by 3

Over/Under: 48 TV-Radio: Ch. 5, WFAN (660), 4:15 p.m.

All the worshipful adjectives are being used to describe the Giants, and rightfully so. The defending champions are the rare total package in a league bloated with .500 teams and stiffs. The Cardinals will win their first division title since 1975, but they're 2-3 against winning teams. Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald have been terrific, but put heat on Warner and the turnovers will come. Big Blue's pass rush and running game (even if Brandon Jacobs sits) will get the job done. The pick: Giants
