With Jared Gaither and Adam Terry still sidelined with ankle injuries, the Ravens will probably look to bring in more experience at offensive tackle. Last week, the Ravens signed Chad Slaughter, a longtime backup for the Oakland Raiders. But the Ravens likely want to upgrade their depth at tackle.

--RB Willis McGahee did not play the preseason opener because of a knee injury. It's not expected to keep him sidelined for the entire preseason. But He has missed most of training camp, which could be reason for mild concern. Ray Rice, the second-round pick, started in place of McGahee.

--RB Ray Rice started in place of injured Willis McGahee in the preseason opener. Although Rice has had a strong training camp, Rice struggled in the preseason opener. He had 12 yards on six carries and failed to break a run longer than five yards.

--TE Todd Heap missed the preseason opener with a calf injury. Coach John Harbaugh said the team isn't concerned and called it a fatigue problem. Adam Bergen replaced Heap in the starting lineup.

--TE Adam Bergen could become the Ravens' No. 2 tight end if Daniel Wilcox continues his slow recovery from offseason toe surgery. Bergen has developed into a capable pass-catching tight end in training camp. He started for the injured Todd Heap in the preseason opener.

--FS Ed Reed came off the physically-unable-to-perform list but might not play until the third preseason game. He had missed the first two weeks of camp with a shoulder injury. Reed has practiced but he is wearing a red jersey, which means he can't engage in contact.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Samari Rolle vs. Fabian Washington for starting CB -- Washington had an excellent debut for the Ravens, making two interceptions in the preseason opener. Rolle has just returned to camp after missing the first two weeks. He had been absent to mourn the death of his father.

OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: Kyle Boller vs. Troy Smith for starting QB -- Boller was accurate in the preseason opener but he committed two costly turnovers (a fumble and an interception). Smith didn't turn the ball over but he was inaccurate.

Haruki Nakamura vs. Tom Zbikowski for backup safety -- Nakamura has been a playmaker in camp, always hustling to the ball. Zbikowski is more physical and seems to be more of a factor in run defense.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CB Fabian Washington -- The former Oakland Raider intercepted two passes in the preseason opener. Washington came up with his first turnover -- an interception of Patriots backup QB Matt Cassel in the first quarter -- one play after Kyle Boller fumbled in Ravens territory. Washington then finished the first half with his second interception in Ravens territory.

ROOKIE REPORT: QB Joe Flacco (first round) struggled in the preseason opener and seems to be out of the running to start the regular-season opener. ... RB Ray Rice (second round) has been running with the first-team offense because Willis McGahee is sidelined with a knee injury. Rice had a disappointing first game, gaining 12 yards on six carries. He also had four catches for 17 yards. ... LB Tavares Gooden (third round) didn't have a tackle in the preseason opener. He will make an impact on special teams and be the backup dime back. ... WR Marcus Smith (fourth round) is working as the No. 3 receiver because Mark Clayton (shoulder) and Demetrius Williams (leg) have both been hurt. He had two catches for 21 yards.

--WR Demetrius Williams (lower left leg) and TE Daniel Wilcox (offseason toe surgery) remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

--OT Jared Gaither (ankle) and Adam Terry (ankle) are expected to miss another week.

--WR Mark Clayton (shoulder) missed the preseason opener but has returned to practice.

--DT Haloti Ngata (knee sprain) could miss the second preseason game.

--DT Kelly Gregg (leg) had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He doesn't know when he will return.

--CB Chris McAlister (knee) missed the first preseason game and is considered day to day.

--RB Willis McGahee (knee) missed the first preseason game and is considered day to day.

--TE Todd Heap (calf) missed the first preseason game but he is not expected to be out for an extended time. Coach John Harbaugh said it was likely fatigue.
