Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2009-03-06
--The Ravens won't show any interest in recently released wide receiver Terrell Owens.

The Ravens still have bitter feelings toward Owens.

In March 2004, after a paperwork error prevented Owens from becoming an unrestricted free agent, the Ravens traded a second-round pick to San Francisco for him. But Owens refused to report for a physical to complete the deal and got the union to file a grievance on his behalf in an attempt to go to Philadelphia.

--It appears as if the Ravens' interest in Marvel Smith has cooled.

Smith, 30, the longtime Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle, missed the final 11 games of the last season with a recurring disc injury. The Ravens' talks with Smith could indicate that the team is trying to upgrade at offensive tackle. Willie Anderson is currently penciled in as the starting right tackle, but the Ravens could save $2.9 million by cutting him.

--There has been talk in league circles that safety Dawan Landry could get some calls from teams as a restricted free agent.

The Ravens gave Landry the low tender, which means they will pay him $1 million in 2009. If another team signs him to an offer sheet, the Ravens have the right to match that offer or receive a fifth-round pick (the round that Landry was drafted) as compensation.

Landry, 26, suffered a season-ending spinal cord concussion in the second game last season. He is expected to return as the Ravens' starting strong safety this season, which is one of the reasons why the team is expected to part ways with Jim Leonhard.

--Backup defensive end Marques Douglas was cut by the Ravens. General manager Ozzie Newsome said there is a chance they'll bring back Douglas.

--The Ravens didn't make qualifying offers to several restricted free agents: running back P.J. Daniels, tight end Scott Kuhn, wide receiver Marcus Maxwell, linebacker Robert McCune and cornerbacks Evan Oglesby and Derrick Martin.

Martin, Oglesby and Maxwell all re-signed for the veteran minimum.

--The Ravens' 2009 home opponents are: the three AFC North teams (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Cleveland), Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Kansas City and Indianapolis. Their road opponents are: the three AFC North teams (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Cleveland), Green Bay, Minnesota, San Diego, Oakland and New England.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I really feel like there is something special here. We'll always be from (Minnesota) but this is exciting and a great opportunity. It's going to be a great adventure for our family, and we're happy to be a part of the Ravens' family as well." -- Newly signed center Matt Birk on why he joined the Ravens.
