Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2009-02-20
--After cutting cornerback Chris McAlister, the Ravens have only two players left from the their 2000 championship team (linebacker Ray Lewis and kicker Matt Stover are the others). Both Lewis and Stover are scheduled to be free agents at the end of February.

--The Ravens reached new deals with backup defensive linemen Dwan Edwards and Brandon McKinney. Edwards, a former second-round pick, signed a one-year deal worth $1 million. McKinney, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent, signed a three-year contract (terms undisclosed).

--A day after cutting McAlister, general manager Ozzie Newsome said he doesn't "anticipate" releasing another veteran before the start of free agency (Feb. 27).

--The Ravens are looking to sign some restricted free agents to long-term deals. Newsome acknowledged punter Sam Koch is a candidate for a new contract.

--The Ravens' 2009 home opponents are: the three AFC North teams (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Cleveland), Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Kansas City and Indianapolis. Their road opponents are: the three AFC North teams (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Cleveland), Green Bay, Minnesota, San Diego, Oakland and New England.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Those are three young players that we can continue to build our defense around. You have someone who can defend the pass, and that's what Ed (Reed) can do. You want someone who can stop the run, and Haloti (Ngata) can do that. You need someone who can rush the passer, and that's what (Terrell) Suggs can do." -- General manager Ozzie Newsome on the young foundation of his defense.
