Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2009-01-02

Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2009-01-02
--With injuries hurting his season and forcing him to become a third-down back, Willis McGahee has been less than exuberant about entering the playoffs.

"My season is over," McGahee said "(Since) Week 5, I haven't done anything at all. It's not like I'm going to get 1,000 yards so I'm just playing my role."

--The Ravens became the only team in the NFL to have running backs who have collected at least 900 yards (902 by fullback Le'Ron McClain), 650 yards (695 by McGahee)and 450 yards (454 by rookie running back Ray Rice).

"That's the three-headed monster," McClain said. "Hopefully, we'll get Ray back (from a left shin bruise), and we're going to need him for these playoffs. Then it's going to be crazy if we get Ray back and doing the things that he does. The way we're rolling right now, we're executing, and if we don't turn over that ball, we're going to be hard to beat."

--Assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Rex Ryan has been contacted by the New York Jets, Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams for their head coaching vacancies.

"Rex Ryan's going to be a great head coach in the NFL - without a doubt," Harbaugh said. "He's got all the talent, all the ability to do it. I'm hoping that Rex Ryan is here for many, many years to come, and maybe that's been part of our conversation. But whatever happens, happens."

--Even-keeled Haloti Ngata drew a rare unnecessary-roughness penalty when the defensive tackle jumped into a fray involving linebacker Bart Scott and a couple of Jaguars offensive linemen after the final play of the first half.

"I wasn't surprised. I was the last guy to do anything," said Ngata, whose 15-yard penalty was assessed to the Ravens' opening kickoff of the second half. "They started it, and I kind of finished it, and it's always that last guy who gets called for the penalty."

--Running back Jalen Parmele made his first appearance as a Raven, and his first carry was a 31-yard burst up the middle. "I was waiting on the sidelines, waiting for my number to be called. I knew it was a possibility," said Parmele, who was signed off the Miami Dolphins practice squad Dec.10. "Once it happened, I saw a huge hole, hit it, and it was a good feeling."

--Punter Sam Koch finished the regular season with a 45.0-yard gross average and a 39.9-yard net average, eclipsing Kyle Richardson's franchise records of 43.9 and 38.3, set in 1998.

--The Ravens are 10-2 when losing the coin toss.

--The Ravens gave up 33 sacks, the second-fewest in team history.

BY THE NUMBERS: 7 -- Seasons since the Ravens last playoff win, which came in the 2001 season at Miami.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Our team is prepared for anything right now. Our team feels very confident in any kind of circumstance or situation. Our guys will be ready for it." -- Coach John Harbaugh on the Ravens having to play every postseason game on the road as the AFC's sixth seed.
