Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2008-10-24
--In a recent interview with an Atlanta radio station, linebacker Terrell Suggs said twice that Troy Smith should be the Ravens' starting quarterback over Joe Flacco.

"Right now, I think (Flacco is) all right," Suggs told 2 Live Stews, a nationally syndicated radio show that is not aired in Baltimore. "But like I said, in the end, Troy should be the starter (because he's) the better man for the job."

Asked about his comments, Suggs denied saying Smith should be the starter.

"That's not what I said," Suggs said. "When he asked me, I said there should be multiple packages. I think both should get a chance to play."

--In the same radio interview, Suggs talked about having a bounty on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward.

He called Ward "a dirty player" and "a cheapshot artist."

"We got something in store for him," Suggs said.

The NFL is investigating whether the Ravens had a bounty on Ward.

--Jonathan Ogden will be inducted in the Ravens' Ring of Honor on Sunday.

"I expected it. But when it came, it was still kind of a shock," Ogden said.

--There was a quarterback change, but it did not involve starting rookie Joe Flacco.

Troy Smith recovered enough from his tonsil infection to leapfrog Todd Bouman in Sunday's game and claim the second-string job. Coach John Harbaugh said Smith is still working on his timing and footwork but is getting closer to the conditioning and shape he displayed before getting sick before the third preseason game.

"We just felt like he was back enough to do it," Harbaugh said. "Troy's a talented quarterback, and if Joe can't go, we think Troy can go in there and do some things that are going to cause defenses a lot of problems. We've got confidence in Todd, too, but Troy was the guy this week."

--Ravens kicker Matt Stover improved to 7-for-10 on field-goal attempts and converted a 47-yarder in the first quarter, his first from beyond 40 yards.

"It was windy down there. I don't know if you guys felt it or not, but there was a lot of crosswind down there," Harbaugh said. "He managed it really well, knocked those things through."

--This game will feature a sibling rivalry. The defensive coordinators -- the Ravens' Rex Ryan and the Raiders' Rob Ryan -- are twin brothers.

"They sound alike and look alike," said cornerback Fabian Washington, who has played for both brothers. "For the most part, you've got to like both of their defenses."

BY THE NUMBERS: 100 -- All-time regular-season wins that the Ravens can earn by beating Oakland on Sunday.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "They're a very good football team. They're one of the best running football teams in the NFL. They're probably the best special teams in the NFL right now. We're going to have our hands full." -- Coach John Harbaugh, on the Oakland Raiders (2-4).
