Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2008-10-15
--The 28-point margin of defeat ranks as the third-worst in the Ravens' 13-year history.

--The Ravens didn't take advantage of the Colts run defense, which ranked last in the NFL. Indianapolis had allowed 188 yards on the ground per game.

On Sunday, the Colts shut down RBs Willis McGahee, Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain as Baltimore gained a season-low 51 rushing yards on 19 carries.

"It wasn't what they were doing, it was what we were doing," said McClain, the Ravens' leading rusher who was held to a season-low minus-2 rushing yards on two carries. "Willis was running hard, but those turnovers killed us. We just weren't executing.

--Ravens coach John Harbaugh was adamant about not criticizing his players as he took several questions from reporters about CB Chris McAlister, who allowed two touchdown passes.

"It wasn't all Chris' fault," Harbaugh said. "We're not about pointing the finger. If anybody thinks I'm going to stand up here and point the finger at one guy or another guy and say, 'This guy played well and this guy didn't play well,' then you can pack up your tape recorders right now.

"That's not what we're about. We're a football team, and we've got to get better as a football team."

--One factor in the Ravens' offensive struggles was the lack of help from special teams.

The Ravens lost the battle of field position, with their average starting point being their own 18.

Colts K Adam Vinatieri kicked all four of his first-quarter kickoffs into the end zone, and Yamon Figurs twice chose to run the ball out, but with minimal success. He got only to the Baltimore 11- and 16-yard lines on possessions that ended with punts.

The Ravens' best start in the first half was at their 20 (three times). In the second half, they started at their 45 with the benefit of an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty against Dante Hughes, but that series ended with Joe Flacco's third interception.

Of Vinatieri's six kickoffs, four went into the end zone.
