Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2008-09-13
--After leading the Ravens to a season-opening 17-10 victory, rookie quarterback Joe Flacco received a vote of confidence from his head coach.

"Flacco will be the starter this week," Harbaugh said.

Selected 18th in the draft, Flacco essentially won the starting job last week by default because the team's other quarterbacks -- Troy Smith (tonsil infection) and Kyle Boller (season-ending shoulder injury) -- were sidelined with medical issues.

But Flacco earned this next start after completing 15 of 29 passes for 129 yards.

--Despite surrendering no sacks and paving the way for the offense to rush for 229 yards -- the sixth most in franchise history -- the offensive line shrugged off any temptation to gloat.

"It's a start," right offensive tackle Adam Terry said. "We've got to do it next week and the week after that in order to say that's what we're about. But initially, it's a start."

--After Sunday's win, Harbaugh did not award a game ball to a specific player or unit. Instead, he said the game ball "goes to the entire team."

So equipment manager Ed Carroll has ordered 94 footballs painted to commemorate the victory for the 53 active-roster players, nine for the practice-squad players, eight for the injured-reserve players, 23 for the coaching staff and one for team owner Steve Bisciotti.

--The Ravens wore white jerseys with black pants for the first time since the 1998 season, according to Carroll, who is in his 20th season with the organization.

--Steve Hauschka, a rookie kicker from North Carolina State, and Mike Kracalik, a second-year tackle from San Diego State, were waived by the team.

The two were let go to make room for cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Derrick Martin, who were suspended by the NFL for the first game.

In addition, the Ravens signed tight end Edgar Jones to the practice squad. Jones played four games as a linebacker for the Ravens last season.

BY THE NUMBERS: 288.1 -- Yards per game allowed by the Ravens defense on the road since 2003, which is second best in the NFL behind Pittsburgh.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're just going to have to prove that we're not a rebuilding team. We are a young team, but as in years past, some young teams have had success. We can't let anything that doesn't pertain to football affect us. If we got out there and play to the best of our ability, we'll be all right." -- Linebacker Terrell Suggs, on the national perception that the Ravens are in a rebuilding mode.
