Baltimore Ravens Notes, Quotes 2009-04-18
--The Ravens are considered a national draw this year.

Even though they return 19 starters from a team that advanced to the AFC championship game, the Ravens received only three national television games. Nearly a third of the league -- 10 of the 32 teams -- received more primetime games than the Ravens.

--Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco and former Ravens tight end Daniel Wilcox were honored with JB Awards at the NFL Players Gala for their charitable efforts off the field.

Flacco, who led the Ravens to the AFC championship game, became involved with the Baltimore chapter of the Special Olympics and recently attended the United Way/NFL Players Weekend. More than 20 players participated in the weekend's community events to raise money for United Way.

Wilcox was nominated by his teammates for his commitment to achieving excellence off the field through building better communities and stronger families. His list of charitable efforts is long and impressive: Established the foundation Empowering M.I.N.D.S. (Motivating and Inspiring Neighborhoods Determined to Succeed); spoke to numerous schools throughout the area; and visited U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

--Daren Stone, a former Ravens defensive back, was suspended four games by the NFL, Foxsports.com reported. The Web site said the reason for the suspension wasn't immediately known.

Stone, who wasn't retained by the Ravens this offseason, made a costly mistake in the AFC championship loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers. He tossed Steelers cornerback Anthony Madison out of bounds during a punt return in the fourth quarter and drew an unnecessary-roughness penalty that moved the Ravens from their 39 to the 14. A 2007 sixth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons, Stone was signed by the Ravens during the middle of last season and played in eight games.

--Rookies, quarterbacks and selected veterans will report to Ravens training camp July 27, the team announced. The rest of the team will arrive at McDaniel College on July 29.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I would challenge you to go to those receivers that we have working right now in the offseason program and tell them we need a receiver and see their reaction. I like the attitude of those guys. We're looking forward to some of those young guys talking some big leaps in their second year." -- General manager Ozzie Newsome on whether the Ravens need to take a wide receiver in the first round.
